Heh. "Just putting pen to paper" isn't MEANT to result in anything like a finished product. It's meant to dump the contents of your brain out onto paper where you can sift and sort through it and pick out the gems. Then you can put pen to paper again - only now you have a clearer picture of what you're writing ABOUT.
